PF Chief Runnin Bear shows dominance in Colors of the Wind

SAN ANTONIO, TEXAS—Coming from a slow start, PF Chief Runnin Bear caught and
passed the leader to win the Colors of the Wind Stakes at Retama Park on August
4. The 6-year-old brown tobiano gelding finished almost a length in front with a
time of :17.97 seconds, earning $8,235, making the two-time APHA World
Champion’s lifetime earnings $167,125.

PF Chief Runnin Bear is sired by Grand Point and out of SC Running Cloud AQHA,
owned by Sherry Koltiska of Lander, Wyoming along with Lynn and Betty Bettinger
of Waco, Texas, and was bred by Randy Davis of Vinita, Oklahoma. He was named
the APHA World Champion Running Horse in 2009 and 2011. He was trained by Judd
Kearl and ridden by jockey Rodrigo Vallejo.
General Gordiz finished second with a time of :18.09. The 3-year-old bay solid
Paint-bred stallion is by Awesome Chrome and out of Killer Corona, bred and
owned by Javier Lujan of Pharr, Texas. Trained by Francisco Vega, Jr., the
stallion was ridden by Luis Ramirez. The young stallion picked up $2,295 for his
second-place finish.
Third across the finish line was Sherrills Babe, a 3-year-old sorrel tobiano
mare by Countin Sixes AQHA and out of Sherrills Lineage, bred and owned by
Jacquie Crenshaw of Conroe, Texas. The mare ran the 350 yards in :18.32 seconds.
Leonard Reese, Jr., trained Sherrills Babe, who was ridden by jockey Ignacio
Bustamante.
Other horses competing in the race included Treasured Sixes, O J Okey, Flashing
Chrome and Awesome Country.
